As the dust settles after our 10th anniversary season, I’m already feeling rather nostalgic. I think of that very first concert for our patrons where we had to move the venue because it was raining (in February, of all things!). I remember worrying and fretting about the musicians’ cellos arriving safely, (and of course, consequently they all did arrive safely!). I think about how wonderful it was to have the rare opportunity of working side-by-side with Christos Hatzis and watching his compositions performed live. Watching Susan Hoeppner magnificently perform that flute concerto was inspiring to all of us! I miss walking about the house while dodging music stands, instruments and speakers in the process. I remember the Aeolus String Quartet concert at the beautiful El Dorado as being one of my personal favourites. It was such a beautiful setting and they played like rock stars! As much as I missed Drew Jurecka this year, Richard Underhill and his quartet were incredible. The jazzers add so much to this festival. Listening to them rehearse in our courtyard in the middle of the afternoon is one of the perks of running the Festival! Finally, I know that we were all left speechless after Anton Kuerti moved us with his Beethoven, and the final concert concluded with a delightful surprise when everyone left the stage in the finale of the Farewell Symphony.
All of this, plus I was able to share it with all the wonderful volunteers, committee members, patrons and audience members alike! Seeing everyone’s face light up to great music always puts a smile on my face.
It was truly a memorable experience for me. I hope it was for you too!
See you next year,
